Local Weather Data
Gunnison County Electric Association (GCEA) documents weather data in coordination with the National Weather Service (NWS).

Specialized equipment has been established at the GCEA headquarters to assist in accurate readings for temperature and precipitation. We record weather data in Heating Degree Days (HDD). HDD is a measurement or value reflceting the amount of energy needed to heat a building and is derived from measurements of outdoor air temperature.
The number of degrees that a day's average temperature is below 65 degrees Farenheit (the temperature below which the buidling needs to be heated) determines the heating degrees per day.
The data is collected and uploaded to the NWS each work day. Our data, as well as that collected by other cooperative weather observers, helps define the climate of the United States.
