Energy Efficiency
Tips

LED light bulbs are a great way to save money on your electricity bill. They use up to 75% less energy than old, incandescent bulbs.

*****

Save energy by preventing phantom loads - energy that is used by appliances and electronics even when they are turned off. Plug TV and stereo systems into a power strip and turn off all the peripherals with the flip of one switch.

Operation Round-Up®

Gunnison County Electric Association (GCEA) members have an opportunity to support the educational needs of youth in our service territory by participating in Operation Round-Up®.

How does it work?

Members who volunteer to take part in the program have their monthly electric bill rounded up to the next highest dollar. For example, if your monthly bill were $52.30, you would pay $53.00. The extra 70 cents then goes into the GCEA scholarship fund.

How much might I contribute annually?

The maximum yearly contribution is $11.88 per meter (99 cents for 12 months), but the average contribution is closer to $6.00 a year. This small contribution may not seem like much, but the dollars add up quickly when enough members participate.

Who decides how the funds are used?

The GCEA Board of Directors determines how Operation Round-Up® funds are to be used. The Board has currently authorized Operation Round-Up® Funds to be donated to the GCEA Scholarship Fund.

What is the GCEA Scholarship Fund?

This is a program that is funded primarily through unclaimed capital credits. However, Operation Round-Up® contributions also help fund our scholarship program. Since 1998 GCEA has awarded an average of more than $15,000 per year to students within our service territory.

Do I have to participate in Operation Round-up®?

No. The Operation Round-Up® program is completely voluntary.

Do I have to remember to round up my bill each month?

No. When a GCEA member signs up for the program, our computer is programmed to round up the bill.

Is my contribution tax deductible?

No. Currently, GCEA is not qualified to receive tax-deductible contributions. However, we are pursuing 501(c)(3) tax status so that members will be able to deduct contributions in the future.

What if I change my mind?

If you are signed up for the program and decide you would rather not participate, simply contact one of our consumer service representatives at 970-641-3520 or 800-726-3523.
