GCEA provides scholarships for students and teachers living in our cooperative service area.
GCEA has provided student scholarships for decades thanks to the generosity of the Board of Directors, Tri-State Generation and Transmission, and Basin Electric power Cooperative.
Students are eligible to receive a scholarship if their parents or legal guardians receive electrical service to their primary residence from GCEA.
First-time applicants must fill out an application form, which is available in the link below and provide the following information:
- List of high school and community activities
- Statement of other activities
- Two letters of recommendation
- High school or college transcripts
- First page of the member's Federal income tax return form 1040 or 1040A
- A 200-word essay relating to cooperative business
Returning college students who previously received a GCEA scholarship are eligible for continued funding if they meet certain academic requirements. Return applicants fill out a new return student application and submit an original certified college transcript.
GCEA members may contribute to the scholarship fund through our Operation Roundup® program.
Scholarship applications are due Thursday, February 2, 2017 by 4:30 p.m.
Summer Opportunities for High School Students
GCEA sponsors high school juniors to participate in the Washington D.C. Youth Tour and the Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp.
Washington D.C. Youth Tour
The Washington D.C. Youth Tour is a fantastic opportunity for two students to visit Washington D.C. with 1,500 other students from across the country. The lucky winners will visit our state capitol before heading to D.C., where they will meet members of Congress and visit national monuments, the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian Museum, and much more. This year the event takes place from June 8-15, 2017.
Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp
Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp is held at the Glen Eden Resort near Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The primary objective of the week-long camp is to provide educational experiences and to develop leadership skills that will assist young adults in meeting future challenges. The camp will be held from July 15-20, 2017.
